Dahru means duck. I was born in Newcastle NSW in 1960. I am from the Worrimi tribe. I started to seriously paint around 1995. I paint stories that come from the dreamtime, which were past down to me from my friends. Both my sister and I were given permission to paint these stories by the elders. The stories I paint on canvas represent the semi nomadic life-style of my ancestors.
As my ancestors travelled across the country from one camp to another they would record these campsites and meeting areas in pictures on bark or cave walls. The pictures would show why they chose a particular site, for example it could be because there was good food and water available. I have continued to follow in my ancestors footsteps, painting these stories to ensure that they are not forgotten.
